… reading in bed, candles, diving into a new project, learning something new, crisp crunchy leaves underfoot, hearing my daughter laugh, starting a new book, finishing a book, organizing, floating on my back in the pool and staring at the sky, writing, craft supplies, photography, poetry, a good massage, knowing smiles, singing along to the radio, getting things done, comfy bedding, hot chocolate, paying attention to the details, libraries and bookstores, campfires, astronomy, finding beauty in the everyday, impromptu road trips, quiet, journaling, learning about myself, waking up and reading in bed (preferably with coffee), home, interesting flowers, affection, Sleepytime tea, capturing a moment in time with my camera, true laughter, soft rain.
Love this Naomi! Teaching our children to stand up on their own to feet and letting them go…to achieve their independence is a bittersweet pill for a mother. Part of us longs to hold onto them and the other part revels in their growing as we let go. This was a beautiful piece that all Mom’s can relate to! <3

I’m so glad you liked it, Belinda! For me, it’s almost always been a joy to see my daughter participate in something or even just leave my side for a few minutes. It’s been a difficult road with her separation anxiety. Even as I write this comment reply to you, she is… well, she’s right here! I don’t know if I’ll be able to hold it together when she finally does really become independent… I’ll be so proud and happy!
I commented on the other site! 🙂

Thanks, Amy! I don’t see your comment there yet but I’m so glad you visited.
So beautifully written Naomi and I know exactly what your talking about…not with my kids but with my Grandson ( 31/2) For his birthday in November we gave him a membership to the YMCA and swimming lessons…Like you and your daughter he did not want to leave my husbands side, as a matter of fact, my husband went in the pool with him the first two weeks…slowly but surely he made his way, trusted the process and now this summer he swims like a fish with no fear…
I’m so glad you did this for both you and your daughter…it is freeing for both of you.
Have a wonderful vacation with her…time passes quickly.

So much to say – Maybe sitting still is not relaxing for you. I think Martha Beck wrote a post about it. I am so glad that other places are publishing your work! I love the teaching that parents are to help your children become independent. I am so glad that you and your daughter found this wonderful teacher. And how wonderful that you are teaching your daughter she can do it.
