Knowing when to rest is a huge accomplishment for me. When I’m feeling anxious and stressed, I know that I need more time to do less. Don’t we all!?
Tell me, where do you go (physically or in your mind) to find calm? What represents calm to you? I love water (the fluidity, the power, the flow) and feel peace when I’m near it, even if it’s only a little desk fountain. I love being in nature.
When I’m feeling my best, these are the ingredients:
- Enough sleep
- Connection to those I love
- Spirituality – reading, praying, quiet time
- Gratitude practice
- Time for expressing myself creatively
This week, I am practicing finding a few minutes during the middle of the day just to go for a walk around the block. It is helping me settle my mind and body and breathe.
What can you do to add a dose of calm to your day?
Each morning, first thing, I’m either on the treadmill or the bike…it starts my day off with me in a good state of mind…doesn’t always stay that way…but it does feel right, in the moment…
Once a week on Tuesdays, after taking care of my grandkids, I head to meditation practice…slowly I’m getting better at the sitting…takes awhile…
Like you, I would like to find a few minutes during the day to do a little walk around the block…stillness is good for the mind and the body.

Yes, I resist that so much! Swimming is an excellent idea because I’m not a huge fan of sweat. 🙂
I would add one more thing to your list, exercise! When my body is slightly tired, I relax more completely, sleep better, and feel less stressed. Walking a few miles can do this almost as well as running, it just takes longer. I’ve often thought that swimming would be the best of both worlds, combining water with exercise, but I seldom have the chance to swim.
