Read this. Do that. Retweet this. Exercise like that. Don’t eat this. Be that.
Jeez!!!
Is there an implication that we aren’t good enough!? How much better can we possibly get???
Marie Folio, personal empowerment guru, says in this short video on MarieTV that the self-help culture is not the fault of the internet or self-help books. We are the ones looking for some tips and tricks to make life more productive. But… we can step away from all that and just enjoy life. Sometimes taking a break from self-improvement is what we need!
I get tired of the continual improvement… of productivity, efficiency, learning, parenting, time management, and on and on and on. I suppose it’s nice to know there’s always more to learn, but I need a little break!
What do you think?
I agree with Patti. Certainly you should not feel obligated to do more and more of these classes/programs, when you’d rather focus on other things in your life. It’s a big challenge to step back and look at yourself objectively, and decide if you have real problems you ought to address. I tried to do that in my professional life recently, and I think I the worst possible person to evaluate myself emotionally. I know more than anybody else does, but I can’t judge fairly.
I think I have been reading books with a subconscious mindset that the other person’s thoughts, ideas, opinions are more valid than mine. I don’t want to do that. I want to read things for exposure to different ideas & then decide what works for me.
That’s such a good observation! I probably do the same because I don’t remember ever reading something and thinking, “that’s not true” or anything. I’ll have to keep that in mind as I go forward.
